Mens Weekend

Late Summer Men’s Group Weekend

The post-earthquake gathering!

UPDATE: Due to the Christchurch earthquake of 22/2/11, the Mensline Mens Weekend has been postponed indefinitely. Little did we know how literally our catchphrase of “the post earthquake gathering” would apply!
We will update you once the weekend has been rescheduled.

When

Start time 7.30 pm Friday night, 25th February 2011.

Why

After the earthquake, a lot of us have a lot more stress in our lives than we did before. Because men need a chance to talk about something besides rugby, racing and beer. The weather is a great topic, so far as it goes. But sometimes we need to talk about the deeper things in life: What does it mean to be a provider when, after the earthquake, you can no longer provide a home? What does it mean to be a man if, after the recession,  you can’t find a job? What is an authentically masculine way to react to dealing with a frustrating, faceless bureaucracy? How can we graciously deal with all the extra stress in our lives in recent months and years without it taking a toll on our relationships?  Talking with other men about the similar experiences many of us have had in recent months can be liberating.

Where

We will be staying in the old vicarage at Governor’s Bay. The Vicarage is no. 8 Main Road, Ohinetahi, Governors Bay, situated 1.4km from the Governors Bay Hotel on the right heading towards Teddington and Diamond Harbour, next door to St Cuthbert’s Church. There are 26 bunks in four bunk rooms, a dining room, lounge and kitchen. There is an ablution block with 4 showers and 4 toilets. There is plenty of outside seating. It is an alcohol free site and no pets are allowed.

Who

You.

Cost

$100.00 – paid to Mensline c/-  Jeff Clark, by Thursday the 24th February 2011. You can pay directly into bank account: 03-1355-0007126-00. Please use your name and the word “mensline” as your reference details. If you don’t have internet banking, you can also make the deposit in cash at your local SBS branch.

This is a non profit event and all proceeds will go towards food and accommodation.

The Small Print

You will be sleeping in a bunk. Bring your own bedding or sleeping bag. As to what else you should bring: use your imagination- perhaps a musical instrument? The food is provided to go with a menu that we will combine to cook. (By doing the cooking ourselves, we will be able to run this event much more affordably than most mens weekends.)

There will be time for you outside of the structured sessions. There are no leaders, and we will collaboratively make up both the program  and own rules.

A successful past format is that there is a session in the morning, afternoon and evening during which you get to hear from and know other men. We may agree to go for a walk together or wander individually instead of doing a session of talking and sharing.

Numbers are limited to the first paid up 20 people.

All queries of all sorts (transport, food, whatever) please ring Jeff Clark on 354-0035.
